Job Scope
Health Care Attendants/Nursing Aides and Home Care Workers provide
support and assistance to Nurses and Allied Health Professionals
by managing
the more routine duties, and providing the necessary administrative
assistance.
They perform basic care procedures such as serving medicine to the residents and attending to their nutritional care and other needs. They also assist the therapists in conducting daily exercises for the patients and accompanying residents to the hospital/ polyclinic for medical check-ups.
Other duties include ensuring the safety, comfort and well-being of the residents, reporting problems to the registered nurse, maintaining accurate documentation of care given and assisting in the admission and orientation of new residents.
Health Care Attendants/Nursing Aides and Home Care Workers are employed in Homes for the Aged, Day Care Centres for the Elderly, Nursing Homes and Welfare Homes.

Good interpersonal skills and an ability to work well with other staff and clients who are often elderly and infirm.

Minimum Requirements
Both
Health Care Attendants/Nursing Aides and Home Care Workers are encouraged to
take up one of the following training courses upon being employed in
a voluntary welfare organisation (VWO).
- Certificate in Eldercare from Nanyang Polytechnic.
- Certificate in Organising for Successful Ageing from Nanyang
Polytechnic.
- ITE Skills Certificate (Home Care)
All the above training courses will be subsidised either through
the Training for Employment in the Social Services (TESS) scheme or
through the Skills Redevelopment Programme (SRP) scheme.

Salary Range
The salary for a Health Care Attendants/Nursing Aides or Home Care
Workers start at around $850 - $1,000 based on qualifications and
experience.

Professional Development Opportunities
Training courses for professional advancement are available locally. This includes the NITEC courses at ITE leading to an Enrolled Nurse status. Further career development is also possible by enrolling for a Diploma in Nursing from Nanyang Polytechnic.
